fishot
Well after a lot of kind advice from forum members I got myself some gear together and had my first go at decoying this afternoon. Within 15 mins of putting up the hide and decoys 3 birds came into the pattern in what I can only assume from my reading was text book fashion. Obviously I got my barrels stuck in the net for the first one which saw me and scarpered, then I missed the second but........................nailed the third :-) Really chuffed and I thought it would continue but in the next 3 hours only half a dozen birds flew straight past none giving the decoys a second look???? It was sunny, windy, rainy and we even had hailstones for a time within that 3 hours but not a sausage. I'm going back in the morning for a second go - good fun this game :-) Thanks again for all the previous advice.
JDog
If there are birds using the field keep your gun in it's slip and just watch their activity and work out the flight lines. You said that the birds 'flew straight past', well they must have been going somewhere so work out where it is. When you think that you have identified the flight lines shoo all of the birds off the field and only if they come back should you set up on the flight lines. fishot
I had set up on a part of a field where I have noticed pigeons feeding several times before and I had some good cover etc.. This is a large open area and full of fields with rape on them some of which I have permission to shoot on some not. It's not that easy as there is a large river there too. Any more advice welcome! This should attract the Sausage.
fishot
Sound advice I'm sure - what about dickybirds?
Longbower
Ah, 'dickybirds' They are the pigeons that turn up in the pattern, while your having a wee. There are also 'T' birds, When you have a flask in your hands. And birds of prey,(when you think Christ iv'e got to hit one soon). Good luck on the morrow.
