DirtyDeeds
Since I've had my gun, I've put about 350 cartridges through it, most of them being D&J but about 50 were Pro Comp. In that amount I've had 3 D&J's misfire on me. A guy I was shooting with last week said it could be the gun; I could have a weak spring. Do these cheap carts misfire that much (1 in 100 so far on average), or could it be the gun? It's a s/h s686 Special. Cheers for any help, Steve P.S. I realise it's actually about 650 carts (4 Feb '07)
stevethevanman
Depends how old your gun is aswell, but modern cartridges are not prone to misfire.
beatingisbest
i expect it is the cartridges

DirtyDeeds
Well, if modern carts aren't prone to misfire, and there's been no misfires within two box loads, then I think I'll have the gun checked. Thanks all.
DirtyDeeds
Well, went shooting last weekend at Dartford and again today at Waltham Abbey, and the misfires are more frequent. The guy from the shop was at my local shooting ground today and is going to have a look at it for me. In the meantime, I shot everybody else's gun in the small group that I was in; lower score (dragging the bottom!) but lots of fun. Hopefully a new spring here and there will make it well again - GWS! Poacher
I've used D&J a few times and never had a mis-fire
Mungler
I got to be honest D&G are the worst of the worst. Next time you are down at Essex Gun get the RC Titanos 7.5's. I think they are knocking them out for £105 / per thousand. For run of the mill clay bashing I have tried all the cheap and cheerfuls and reckon that the Titanos are the best value, followed by the sporters £95 / 1000 (cos you can get those on 7, 8 and 9). D&G though, awful. Don't be such a gypsy next time. There is a reason they are that cheap.
DirtyDeeds
D & G.... Dolce & Gabanna? Seriously though, there were boxes of D&J's at the shop; it was either those or Pro Comp's, so wasn't being a gypsy (ergh, spit! wrong subject to mention to a taxi driver!), I was just new to the game. I didn't see much else, and the shop owner says he has to buy carts. in the thousands to make it worthwhile, so he doesn't stock everything under the sun. I've heard that Eley Blues or Gamebore White XLR are good carts. but can't seem to source them. And as for Essex Gun.... I went in there once on my way home from work. OK, I was on my bike and it had been raining, but I was still a potential customer. I had just applied for my licence so was window shopping, but I just got the impression that unless I walked in with a wad of dosh, they weren't interested. It may be a good shop with a nice web site, etc. but if I'm not made to feel like a valued customer, they won't get my custom!
DirtyDeeds
Well, got my 686 back today and there was no charge. Apparently, I'd been a little over jealous with the grease which was effectively acting as a shock absorber to the hammer. The smith has cleaned and re-greased it, and put quite a few carts through it with no probs; the caps had bigger dents in than before, so I feel quite happy (and a bit of a plonker, too!).
