Type in 'pellet gun', 'Air rifle' or 'Air Gun' etc etc in the search bar and look at all the people that come up,

I was hoping to find some demonstrations or clips from DVD's but all I found were mostly idiot's messing around irresponsibly and treating airguns like toys, so many videos are based around things like ' haha my mate getting shot in the back by my air rifle LOL'.....

Too many people who shouldn't have airguns have them, it's terrible!

All it takes is one silly move and someone is either blinded, scarred for life or even fatally injured, it's happened before, a young boy was shot in the temple by his friend by accident, although no harm was intended the boy died because of the injury, I'm sure you all heard about it, anyway, the way it's going at the moment it's bound to happen again, it seems the licensing system is on thin ice as it is, I think it needs preserving!

What are your views?!

i know its shocking, I also post on another forum and a 14 yr old came on asking advice about an air rifle, here is what the child said:

New shooter here, 14 years old, played with ma mates a bit, BSA lightning and lightning XL .22, on their farms and that, wanting my own very soon, was looking at either the BSA Lightning XL .22 or air arms pro sport , the gorgeous ?400 odd one , and was tihnking wether the prosport one would be worth the extra money for me?

all i'd be doing is shooting rabbits and the odd sneaky pheasent for a bit of fun. could someone recommend which one and what scopes and pellets to be using? for fairly close rabbit hunting.

Obviously attempting to defend the sport as much as possible i bashed the poor boy:

Shooting pheasants is illegal outside of game season no matter what gun or whether you own the land! Secondly you should NOT shoot at a pheasant with an air rifle. It is not only illegal but incredibly irresponsible and stupid as it is inadqeaute in power to humanly dispatch ANY game birds. Also i do believe unless your mate is 21+ you will be illegally using a firearm as you need to be under supervision to shoot. So all in all, you are not old enough or RESPONSIBLE enough to own & operate an air rifle ("played with ma mates") its not a water pistol.

Unfortunately people like you even though you are young destroy an endangered sport for everyone else.

I just hope he takes note, as he has not replied :good:

Ha sorry about the apparent topic repetition, I wasn't aware it had been discussed before.

I guess all we can do is hope that nothing else terrible happens....

Actually, :good:

Providing you have permission, are in the correct season and have a game licence it is legal to kill game birds with an air rifle. Surely phessies and other game birds are no bigger than rabbits and have no smaller kill zones than pigeon which are both suitable airgun quarry. Although I would like to point out I don't shoot game with my air rifle this is just my choice.

From the age of 14 you can use an air rifle unsupervised on private land where you have permission.

Not at all mate, I could just see people staying clear of this one and you not getting any replies, checking your deodorant etc :lol:

I think most will agree any kind of tomfoolery with guns is stupid, on the licence front you are guaranteed 6 pages of name calling and abuse

That's learning to ride a bike by watching Evil Kenevil!

It can be done but you have to be extraordinarly good, hence the reason he has made a dvd of his skills.

And scaring the birds out of bushes into a line of guns laying in wait is sporting?

The toffs don't see it that way!

I agree to a point but it still takes skill to hit a high bird, not that I have much experience I hasten to add.

Rough shooting is more that killing the birds, it's about convservation and jobs, not forgetting tradition.

Try stalking a pheasant into airgun range, not to take the shot but to improve your skills.

Now having read another Home Office guideline it appears you can on private land with owners permission as stated by FM and BB, now this just shows how hazy the law is on airguns and how youngsters are already off at a disadvantage due to the fact the police and home office say 2 different things!
