Big Mat
There is no standard or hp steel, There is 10 bore steel and 10 bore steel! What gun are you using? Factory cartridges that are available are remington, winchester and gamebore
Jordanrussell123
I'm thinking of buying a graylag side by side but the only time I would use it is for geese so steels is needed Edited March 28, 2014 by Jordanrussell123
Big Mat
Open the chokes and use steel. The greylags are build like tanks, the barrels are incredibly thick, they'll handle steel no problem. They have that thick barrel walls that they used to bored them out by nearly 50 thou and reproof them as 8 bores.
Jordanrussell123
It's already choked at 1/4 1/4 is that ok for steels
pestcontrol1
I will probly get slated for this post but heyho 1/4 & 1/4 is abit open 1/2 is much better and patterns better with most loads you may find that with them chokes you will struggel to hold a tight pattern much past 40 yards but you could get a load that shoots well if you roll your own
subsonicnat
yes you did say you might be berated lol. Have mine at a 1/4 choke and throws a very tight pattern with Steel. Steel does tend to throw tight patterns because of the wadding being so chunky, (Avoided the word THICK) Lol. you will be fine with both 1/4 1/4 mate, its shooting ranges people have difficulty with. Sorry to EDIT: You will probably find they throw nearer 1/2 choke.. Edited March 28, 2014 by subsonicnat

kent
I use Nitro steel in mine and fast handloads. Chokes are slack half and tight half. Unless we are talking short chambers and Damascus in older guns then its hard to blow a ten gauge up if its in good condition but as there is no set std for the 10g steel bear in mind the proof std was 1200kg most likely
