staffyspen
Hi all, My lad, 12 and bigger than average, asked for a gun to accompany my when shooting clays for his birthday, Looking for recommendations on what's worked for you? Not looking at spending a fortune as it may be a fad, so 300-400 is tops, I prefer o/u as opposed to s/s or semi but semi is an option if it will suit? Thanks
Westley
Try a search on this subject, I think it may be of some assistance.
staffyspen
I have and do but opinions change when people get new guns and sometime don't post about them. Also if someone wanted to sell 1 they'd know I was looking. Thsnks
jimmyb79
A friend of mine has a short-stocked Lincoln o/u 20b for his son of the same age. Works well for him. Another alternative are the Webley and Scott junior range, they come with short and normal length stocks so would last him a lot longer. DEADLY PLUMBER
My son now 16 has shot a 20g for about four years now. His first 20g was a cheap Investarm which I cut the stock down for him. Then I got him a w&scott junior o/u 26" barrels, multi chokes, ejectors, it also came with 2 stocks. The longer one he is shortly due to start using as he is now taller than his dad now. A lovely gun for a young lad. I think I may keep it for myself. He is now into Airsoft so does not shoot as much. Also with a 20g you can get good selection of ammo for him. My son started on 21g load for clays and now uses a 24g load. He found a 28g load to punchy in a light gun for clays. But uses a 28g load for pigeons no problem. A 20g will also give him a fair chance of hitting any clay he shoots at.

welshwarrior
The Lincoln no2 and E Rizzinis are the same gun both suffer as many do from being built on a 12 bore action. Browning Medalist FIAS or the newer Lincoln are better IMHO as they are made on a true 20 bore action, but this makes them more desirable so tend to cost more. staffyspen
Thanks, Other option is semi but I'm not so keen on those.
jimmyb79
Personally, I would rather a child used an o/u or sxs, firstly they're better to teach and demonstrate safety with and secondly, I'd always be worried that they'd lose a thumb with a semi (as I have nearly done!)
