fletcher1004
I purchased 100 Hull Comp X 28g the other day to have a go with and while they didn't necessarily perform any better than the Eley First 28g I'm used to I was amazed at how much less deberis and residue was left in the barrels after 100 shots. So for the sake of them costing only 50p more Pete box I'm going to be switching to these from now on!!

Comp X are a decent shell, especially known for their gentle recoil but how clean they leave the gun should be about number 11 out of desirable cartridge traits. Hamster
So what are numbers 1 - 10 then........ Well priced, well made, available in my preferred spec, easily sourced, sensible recoil, consistent from batch to batch, year to year, performed well, boxes easy to open, cartons that don't make your nails bleed, isn't called a girls name, next to zero misfires, I'm sure here are more important things to add, all shells will leave a residue, just because one looks cleaner doesn't mean a lot because you either love cleaning guns or you don't. I don't clean shotguns as a matter of routine, only when they get wet or if they really need it, what the inside of the barrel looks like is to all intents and purposes immaterial. As I said the Comp X is a decent enough shell but to applaud it over something else because of it leaving a light residue is like buying polyester trousers because they hold a crease well. Yes, exactly, I've tried those 21g Comp X shells on some tough targets and they broke them well, but I didn't bother to check how clean the barrels were because it doesn't matter one bit. Like Hammy, my gun only ever gets cleaned when it really needs it, I've got better things to do with my spare time than spending hours getting a mirror finish on the inside of my barrels. Cat.
