dadrew
Well finally got my first permission, allowed to shoot any pest species and any game birds that may migrate on to the land during the season. Twenty Four fields of Winter Barley, Winter Wheat and Oil Seed Rape. Thanks must go to a new friend. Do the birds come in before the crops are cut or do they wait until its stubble? HW682
Have you seen this calendar pinned at the top of the section, it might be of interest? http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/129148-crop-watch-calendar-where-to-look-for-pigeon-activity/
Konnie
low bits of rape that have been hit by pigeons, laid barley could be the next thing on the list if pigeons find it they can hit it hard, when its green and on the turn. easiest way keep in touch with the farmer he will spot these places from tractor/sprayer. JDog
Get out and look regularly would be my advice. By doing that not only would you be able to spot any pigeon activity but you would also learn something of the farming calendar.

Barley is getting on ear so if there are any of it flat in the next few weeks as it goes milky, the big farmers spray it so it keeps shorter and stronger where a smaller set up might not do so... Worth a look...apart from that just a waiting game. One thing is if you get to ask the farmer if he swaths his rape, one farmer around here will cut a couple of rows to let the air get in.
