gemini52
Had my visit today,my ticket is up in july, every thing went ok,but what i found this time around was the interest in how fit you are and what if any daily medication you take,it says on the form they are only interested in conditions such as cancer, epilepsy, diabeties,i fear this is just another excuse to refuse you a certificate, the reason being if you are unfit due to a health issue then you are unfit to possess a firearm,at the moment i am still pretty fit for my age but is this more nails in the coffin for shooters. thegazbo
I renewed mine in January and I have diabetes, there was no issues whatsoever in fact my FEO didn't even mention it. But then its like anything else if you don't look after diabetes properly you can turn quite violent and act completely of of character. But then if you eat properly and take the medication it should never get to that state. So grounds for refusal could be argued on that fact alone. Thinks dam I could be refused next time best keep my BASC membership up to date.

marshy pete
there looking for any thing, not to give you a licence, they dont want us to have guns,, That's never been my experience to be honest, helpful and very professional in all my dealings with them, they don't mess about but certainly never got the feeling they where obstructive... grrclark
I have to say that the FEO that I deal with in Fife is absolutely excellent. There is no indication at all that they are looking to restrict firearm ownership or make life difficult, in fact they really couldn't be more helpful. My application was just over 3 weeks start to finish and my wife's was faster.
gemini52
I am under merseyside, and if i am honest have never found any feo to be helpful, the impression i get is they dont like the general public to guns,i had one guy who told me that,he said i dont like guns and i dont see why people need to shoot,i could not wait for the arrogant sod to leave.I no doubt there are firearms officers out there who are helpful,i have yet to meet one. That seems absolutely mental. Disappointing that is the case.

I don't see it this way, I have diabetes as do a number of people with firearms along with other conditions. If I was diagnosed with something that had an effect on my safety to use guns I should give them up and I think most sane people would. BTW I just renewed my Shotguns and firearms and the full thing took about 4 - 5 weeks, there is no problem other than who pays if its medical stuff. Just one incidence of the wrong person being given a licence normally effects us all.
trickyh
there looking for any thing, not to give you a licence, they dont want us to have guns,, Not my experience as well. I've dealt with two jurisdiction in the past 2yrs (Herts and Thames Valley) for both fac and sgc and the feo's couldn't have been more helpful or informative. Postcode lottery I guess?? superspark
Last renewal I got asked, what do I use the guns for? My reply was the same as it has been over the past 32 years. I realy don't know what they were expecting me to say.
