shootinfishin
http://www.mecshootingsports.com/p-387-9000hn.aspx Any hints tips or tricks and things to avoid? I've bought the 12g version so if anyone is selling any supplies off or sees any good deals out there I wouldn't mind a heads up if that's ok :-)

fortune
read the manual several times BEFORE you start. It is a super machine BUT there are a lot of adjustments to make on it to get the finnished product to be first class. If you can mount it with a LARGE plastic tray under it to catch any spilled shot. And there will be spilled shot episodes at some stage. I had to empty out the hoover to try and get the shot off of the floor to avoid a skating rink effect. If you loose some shot, one pellet can get stuck in the jaws of the collet and if this happens you wont be able to cycle the stroke. More fun and games. Keep at it though and when you've got the adjustments sorted out you will be churning out rounds by the score.
Lord Geordie
In fairness, it shouldn't need much, if any fettling! they are set up before leaving the factory. unless of course your loading 65mm or 67mm carts! The collet is easy enough to clean out! as for shot! Mount the loader on a table a few inches back from the front. then just glue some picture frame round the edge of the table on the back and sides! drill.and dowel the front one so you can lift it out when needed. this aids with sweeping the table to remove shot,.powder etc. Remember to keep your hands out of the workings when you activate it. Guest cookoff013
the only alteration i had to do was adjust the bar travel with the nut on a bar. i also bought a long threadded crimp punch. good for deep crimps.
fortune
The main thing that I had had to adjust on both of my machines is tied up with the crimp settings so that you get a nice curve on the outer leading edge without crushing the case. fieldwanderer
the instructions, I found quite hard work - the way they're worded could be better imho The biggest mistake I made was not keeping running notes of what I'd adjusted and how much by, so I could put it back - when you loose track, it's a big game of trial and error to sort it and, "DEFAULT 1" when something's wrong the damned thing's like a baby chucking it's toys (read shot and powder) all over itself which results in a strip and clean before you can even start looking for the problem that caused it. My experience is that most problems come from the auto primer thing - make sure it's dropped a primer, the right way up and that it drops into the hole second most problematic (to me) has been the wad finger thing, I think it's a poor design and have spent ages trying to figure out how to fit a different one. The wad gets stuck and either squashes the case or splits it, if you don't spot it in time guess what happens.................yep; "DEFAULT 1" Strangely, if you can't find what's wrong, usually strip and clean including under the carousel and dismantle the collet, clean it very carefully and re-grease then re-adjust it seems to work wonders
saddler
As with many things today, also check YouTube for hints and tips. Lots of good advice on the Brian Eno forum, plus the Shotgunworld forum

Guest cookoff013
ok, some of the obvious tips are... you can take away the wad guide to reload virgin cases, but you have to trick the machine into thinking there is a 70mm case in there, i do that by putting a block of wood at the bottom to trip the central bar into thinking its got a case in it. i do this when loading fibre. its better if you go slow, when you depress the lever, keep it down to allow the powder to drop. the lead should take no time at all. when i am shutting down the machine or stopping, i put in disected cases to catch the powder / shot. then lift off the bar / head, put the components back in the bottles, then back in the original away bottles. fortune
Hopefully this link or picture will show how a little adjustment can make a diference. The cartridges are 28g and the one on the right is ok but with a little adjustment I can turn out nicely tapered cases like the one on the left and remove the hex effect on the folding corners as good or better than factory using my sizemaster. The little cases seem to be more difficult than a 12 to get a good taper crimp that is round. They all go bang and the stuff seems to fall down ok. Edit. Clang forgot to add the link.
