hawk4sport
Hi all, just picked my gun back up after about 10 days away with dafydd marston at D M Shooting near Litchfield. Myself and one or two others were getting a little bit fed up with some shops who out source their work / repairs to so called gunsmiths and being away for weeks on end, in one case 11 weeks , and also getting the gun back and STILL having the same problem only to have to resend the gun away again for another x amount of weeks and getting charged the earth just for the privalige. So after doing a bit of research decided to give Dafydd a call, told him the problem and popped the gun over to him, so if anyone on here is looking for an honest and genuine guy to do their repairs i can certainly recommend him ,

Gunman
Problem with taking a gun to a shop that passes work on to the likes of myself is that often they do not pass it on straight away or collect it as soon as it is done . Ad to that the guy doing the work may be busy on other work so he may not look at it for a week .[ Like this week when I have spent all my time putting ribs on sleever's ].I also often get the ,Oh can you do it ASAP we've had it for two weeks and the mans getting ratty , so you do then it s another two weeks till the collect it . The other problem is this , you explain to the shop what you think is wrong . The shop puts his interpretation on your words and passes that on to the gunsmith . These instructions may not be accurate , e.g.. gun misfires top barrel is not the same as the gun will not change over. Having worked on gun repairs since 1977 I have come across many many such examples. Even worse when dealing with warrantee work as the gun goes form customer to shop ,shop/dealer to importer , importer to me ,if there is a problem with instruction I can only talk to the importer who talks to the dealer who in turn asks the customer and then back up the chain .Ahhhhhh . welshwarrior
Quite agree one shop only drops the guns off to me once a fortnight so if you just miss it your gun is away for at least a month. Personally I think your best going direct to a gun smith as the shop takes time and adds a percentage.
welshwarrior
Well I thought I'd sort of let people know what we do. Shooting lessons I teach all the lessons personally and have a coaching CV that includes some of the most prestigious shooting schools in the Uk. I'm currently offer a discount to PW members of £25 plus clays and cartridges for 1 hr lesson or £35 for a gun fitting. Firearms refurbishment we take your tired or damaged gun and bring it back to its former glory or in some cases finish it better than it left the factory. We sell a selection of used guns, but can also get new guns, all the normal brands Browning Miroku Beretta CZ etc but also ATA shotguns (been using these for awhile now excellent guns at bargain prices) AimSonic and Hardy Moderators and Brattonsound cabinets. I'm willing to help long term PW members as I believe most here would be willing to help other shooter. We'll all be honing our own chokes and taking on other little jobs before much longer by the sound of it. Going to make a right balls up of it all, of course, and then we're going to need a 'smith to sort it all out. Trouble is, they'll be even fewer and further between than even at present and we'll all wonder why.

Yes I'm the slightly younger generation, Gunman hopefully you will have passed on your knowledge to someone from my generation to keep the skills alive.
