Taken at local pond after a very long wait...

 

For those that are interested.

Spot metered on the bird for exposure. Make sure you have a dark BG to make the subject pop.. Also distance between the subject and B/G for DOF..

Focus point on the eye or as close as possible.

A/V

F/7.1

A servo

Back focus button when tracking. Then bang

Prep focus point to make space for the bird to fly into.

W/B cloudy

Iso 400

 

Shot with Canon 7D x Canon 100 x 400 lens hand held..

Well done what stunning picture i remember catching one with a Goss Hawk was looking fore Duck when it flew up it was released all ok but it made a lot of noise about it at the time

Sorry to be a bit dim, but are you saying you caught a Heron when out hunting with a Goshawk. I have seen a pink decapitated by a Peregrine. I knew Goshawks are brilliant hunters but that's amazing.
