strangford wildfowler
I saw a pretty strange site today I saw about 50-60 pigeons on a grass field, this field I think was recently sown mybe 2 weeks ago and the grass was just coming through the surface. A funny thing about this field was that there was a lot of sand on the ground like a foot ball pitch. Now my question is this what where these pigeons feeding on? Continental Shooter
I hate when they do that! in my area there's plenty of these fields and you'll never been able to decoy great number as at the first shot they fly away to the next field and never come back! The clue is in the question...freshly sown..so I would imagine the ley has been sown for long term grazing in mind and perhaps a cockle park mix has been used with a proportion of white clover to fix atmospheric nitrogen while the seed establishes... its likely that the birds are picking off the succulent young clover. KFC
I would also have said Clover. There's a patch of road around here where Pigeons gather to pick up grit so, on the patch you've described, they've got a double whammy of sand and Clover. There's also a couple of walls that have had the pointing marmalised by pigeons getting grit.
