Sub Nova
I'm just on the verge of buying a volvo XC70 2006 as my shooting/dog vehicle, I'm starting to get tired of the niggling problems on the 300tdi and also I'm traveling a lot more now, so I'm after some nice comforts! Anyway, I'll be starting to view cars this w-end, I've googled them but info is limited. Anything that I should look for? Anyone got expectancies with one, good or bad? Thanks in advance for any advice. SN
Cannon
There's everything you'd ever want to know about them on the Volvo Forums. There were some recalls due to faulty calipers amongst other things, but most seem happy with theirs.

bazzab
My father in law has a 2013 model. Lovely car. Great to drive, reliable. He loves it. Good friend of mine is service manager at a volvo dealer. The customers that have them love them. When they released new model there was a huge waiting list for them. Volvo struggled to get enough of em here. He also said when they take them in px and put them on there forecourt the longest they've had one was a few days. They fly out the door. Speaks volumes to me mate. One thing..... there almost to nice for shooting and dogs!!!!! Then again if your gonaa do it, do it properly haha. Sub Nova
I know what you're saying! But time for some of the finer things in my hunting transport! The overall opinion is that they are a good vehicle, as long as the have a full service history they should go on for a lot of miles. Thanks for the replies so far guys. PhilR
We bought our XC70 SE Lux auto new in January 2006. It was the then new upgrade model with 185bhp and 6 speed auto box. It's about due it's 162k service. There's been one or two niggles, had to have the EGR valve and ancillary bits replaced out of warranty which cost just over £1k. Both front shockers were leaking, a common fault evidently, they're electronically controlled for the sport/ comfort suspension. Volvo wanted in excess of £1200 to replace them. That's when I parted company with the dealer network. I found a local indy who did the job using OE parts direct from manufacturer (name escapes me) and a couple of worn joints for half Volvo quoted price. Tyres last pretty well around 30k for the fronts and almost double that for the rears. Fuel consumption is around 33mpg, the onboard computer lies and shows about 3mpg average consumption better. We've driven it all over Europe and it's a very comfortable car to be in, goes well too when needed. In hindsight I should've bought the 163bhp model mine superceded, my pal bought the old model the same spec as mine, we paid the same discounted price. He's not had the EGR valve problem because none of that emission junk is fitted to that engine. His mpg has been signifcantly better than mine too. Hard pressed to tell the difference in performance either. I replaced a BMW estate with the Volvo and if they'd done a 4 wheel drive in the UK, as they do in Europe I'd have had one in a shot. However, the Volvo is now like a comfortable pair of old slippers and I'm not contemplating replacing it anytime soon.
