Chrono?

Hi all, I load my own ammo for .223 and .308, still trying to find the best load for my .308

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a suitable chrono for a reasonable price? I've looked online but they seem to be aimed at airsoft or paintball guns, will these do the job? As long as they are capable of the velocities I will be looking for? I saw one that said up to 7000fps which is more than ample

looks like it ... mine has a 3m lead and remote screen but otherwise the same.

Other makes are Pact and Prochrono and there's a new one or that straps to the muzzle £200++. ...

Have a look in the airgun section on here ..Worth trying archery shops for prices too.

The F-1 is a good basic chrony - with the addition of a simple push button switch you have access to a lot more information like average, hi-lo, SD, ES etc.

Here's a better place to buy:

Not sure how you expect a chrono to help you get a good load for your calibres other than tell you speed of what you already have and give you a rough guide to whether your under of over pressure. If you have followed your loading manual data you should be roughly in the right place starting 10% off max load. As you work up in 0.5gr loads toward max you should start to see what is working, if your going over pressure you will get primer flattening and stiff bolt. What your chrono will tell you is the speed of your most accurate load and then, with all the mass of online ballistic programmes( I use Nikon's one as has proved right when matched against results in the field) you can add your info and find bullet drop and muzzle velocity out to various ranges.

I have the prochrono which is around the £100 mark I think but I have had it a while, it gives a average speed and shot string. I use mine for 243 and 308's, and when the children are bored on wet days we have elastic band firing comps through the chrono.
