LED or Cree or Halogen

As a result of my post about a battery box another question has come out of this, which is the use of LED or Cree lamp power as opposed to Halogen.

I have a small focusable spot torch that uses a Cree light source and it is really impressive for it’s size and it uses hardly any power at all. I've only ever used Large lamps with Halogen bulbs, SO the question is >> who uses LED or Cree lamps and how good are they in comparison to a halogen bulb lamp?

How reliable are the light sources and are they replaceable like a halogen bulb which is cheep and readily available.

Led are far more reliable as there is no filament to go if knocked. Brighter and uses less power colder running what's not to like. They last thousands of hours so replacing the led should never be a problem, but yes they can be changed.

Led is fine for a rifle mount but definitely harder to spot with, if from a vehicle you won't beat a light force but on foot / high seat the LEDs will last as long as you are out without needing to carry a mega sized battery

From the other thread

Try a couple out, there's some really good kit about, from £5 ebay plus £30 on lenses cheapies that'll work well with a rimfire through to the more costly pretty much as good as a light force 240 plugged into a car!

Both will fit in yer pocket, and as yet not had to resort to a spare battery

The days of carrying big batteries about are long gone

Magman has one which I would choose over any light force !
