Paddy Galore!
hi gents, my van is playing up a bit and I could do with some advice please, the problem is when I turn the key the engine gives a double blip on the throttle, it revs up to around 2k and then calms down, it's like I've got my foot caught on the throttle[i haven't by the way]. it doesn't do it all the time but enough to get my attention. before you all say it, yes I seem to have bought a bit of a pup, it's had oil and filter, air filter, and a middle and rear box fitted since the sale but hasn't solved the problem, what can I do to cure this new ball ache? cheers for any help, Paddy. edit, it's a 1.9 SDI Edited July 6, 2014 by Paddy Galore! Engine cold, warm, first thing? when starting the motor, it's intermittent, doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold, sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't could be ecu have you put it on a scanner could be cold start air flow temp sender (my 406 hdi flags high eng temp whe i first start) open circuit on temp switch .the scanner will highlight any probs. atb alan looks like a trip to the garage after all I did manage to find the drain plug on the fuel filter though, and I fixed the gearbox problem, I lost 2nd gear this morning slack nuts on the linkage was the culprit. it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some tightwads will go to to bodge a repair, all it took was a bag of M8 nylocs, the cock had put superglue on a grease smothered thread to try and lock the nuts down

Paddy Galore!
hi gents, not sorted yet as I can't get a day off to go to the garage, plus I've been busy sorting the oil pressure switch out, did a flush and changed the oil and filter again and it seems to be ok fingers crossed and touch wood., none of the tell tale bits of gunk dribbling out of the sump plug either. it'll go in one day this week for a code read, I was hoping for an easy fix but this electronic stuff is above and beyond me. cheers all, Paddy
Alycidon
I used to have one, at 40,000 miles it started stopping, engine just cut out. Dealer had it at least 8 times, once for 2 months, had it back fixed, it broke down again 200 yards out from the dealer. Scrapped it in the end when it had a half tidy prang. I had one mate, best van I ever had sailed through nearly all its M.O.T's, had it for 12 years with a 188'000 mls on the clock, no trouble whatsoever. Hope that's a bit more positive for you, in fact I have just recentely bought a new one and hoping for the same reliability from it.
