Couldn't make sense of it.

I started to look for pigeons at 10am and saw none until 1:30. Three and a half hours of frustration.

The ones I saw were distributed between four fields of wheat which had gone down very badly in places. There were about fifty pigeons in each field but absolutely no lines in to any of the fields and I sat there in the car for another half an hour listening to James Anderson bashing the ball all over Trent Bridge wondering if I would get a shot or not.

A weak line started and I rushed out and set up in the corner of a field which actually had no laid corn but which was on a flight line. There were mowed grass margins 30m wide round the field which would be suitable for dropping birds in if I could manage it. It was really flight line shooting not decoying and in three hours I shot 59 pigeons. The keeper's dogs ensured that none were left behind.
