Big Al
Got out for a roost shoot last night. Six pigeon and 3 jackdaws. It is the best roosting session ive had since this time last year. Birds mostly full of ivy but some with wheat - probably from our pheasant feeders. Has anyone seen any evidence of this? Dan Kinney is an uncle of mine & he is prone to a bit of exaggeration lol. There were reports back in December on various Facebook pages about shooting in Northern Ireland that birds were being found dead. The only evidence I found was 1 pigeon on our syndicate that was unable to fly one day & was in very poor condition. However, hundreds of birds is not true, I haven't saw a hundred birds all winter in the glens lol.

I went out and examined the ones I shot yesterday and could see no signs of the symptoms mentioned. I started up another thread to see if anywhere else has heard of it. Dr D
Load of rubbish! Nobody has been getting pigeons locally all winter because they didnt flock up. This was because of the beech and mild winter combination. I shot 15 on saturday, filled with ivy, wheat (because there has been a little bit of drilling)and, believe it or not - beech!!! 2015 could be a great year for pigeons. Thats my prediction, as long as we dont get a good may, which will help the beech mast again.
