Suffolk shooter
Definately going, went to both days last year, word of advice book early via the internet, as limited places. Well worth the day for those that don't have FAC or do and want to try something different. Yet to do the 1000yd on stickledown, so this year that's my goal. Have to do the McQueens again 26/30 last year and 4ex5 bulls on the 300yd next door with the last one just being outside. Blackpowder was fun as well. Good fun, enjoyable day out and relatively cheap as well. SS

flash
one piece of advise is make sure u have enough money, there thieving beggars on the open day, not recomended if u can shoot before and are going for a laugh as it will bank rupt, but if uve never been before its a laugh, went last year and was only put off by the price and the ques., have fun though. cheers flash
MC
SS, I suppose we could go and shoot some things, We will have to do Stickledown first (as long as it isn't foggy) and I am going to fire that 4 bore muzzle loader this time. You're driving in your nice beemer though
Suffolk shooter
MC, no probs with the BMW, I don't pay for the fuel so what do I care. Might have ago at the four bore myself, after I've picked you up off the ground Good job you don't normally use one of these on the Marsh, after the other night or it would have probably been curtains Flash, I know what you mean about the queues, back in may last year, I think I'm right in saying that there was something like 1400 people, but then the second open day in Oct this was limited to 800. Regards the cost, £6 for entry and then buy tickets/vouchers as and when you need them. We get £20 as a matter of course and then those we don't spend, we take them back and they refund you the full face value. SS
Dunkield
I have never been, and as I probably wouldn't bother to shoot, is there any other stuff to do there on the day?
MC
Stuart, Why would you go to an open day at a shooting range and not shoot? What else would you want to do? You can get to shoot at varying ranges and all different rifles and pistols.
Dunkield
Martin, I see your point, but my point is why would I pay to do it with other peoples guns when I can do it for the cost of a lane anytime I like (without queing)? I was just wondering if they laid anything else around the village.
Suffolk shooter
Right, That's me booked in for the day. I note cost has gone up by £2 for the regestration to £8 and you can still buy tickets for the ranges at £10 or £20 fully refundable if you don't use them. MC has booked his as well, so any of the other PW usual suspects going to tag along then? SS
Suffolk shooter
Right, so are me and MC likely to bump into any others next saturday at the open day. Might not be too late to book in if you haven't already done so. Well worth it trust me. SS

Dunkield
Well how did it go then SS and MC? (PW's anwser to Terry & June )
MC
Personally a waste of time, we shot a bit but the queueing up all the time got on my nerves. I did call in to Fultons to drool over a new rifle but at £3500 it will have to wait.
Suffolk shooter
AS MC said, we did get some shooting in on those disciplines that we hadn't been able to get to before but the queuing was a pain in the ****. We queued for nigh on 2 hours to shoot the "McQueens" - Precision snap shooting with .762 over 300yds at 5 targets popped up randomly behind a mock castle turret with windows/ramparts. On the brighter side I shot the Match class over 1000 yds on stickledown range, managing to get all five in the bull Shot the 300yd and managed to do reasonably ok, not as good as last year though when I shot 4 ex 5 "V" bulls and one just outside. For those who have never been, trust me it is a good day during which you can shot varying disciplines that you wouldn't normally get to do, but the queuing needs to be sorted out BIGTIME. SS B) PS STUARTP, just for the record I am TERRY

Dunkield
Well I think the NRA need to gear this event up a bit if they want to get people into shooting and not put them off. Maybe a victim of their own sucess? Ironically, I was at short siberia yesterday and without even trying as well my own 3 rifles I shot: .223 AR15 .308 Sako TRG 22 .300 Win Mag 30.06 .243 I turned down the offer to shoot an 8x57 bolt action and double rifle, plus another 300 win mag and a 25-06 as my shoulder was starting to throb a bit by then. Ironically once you have rifles, you get to shoot loads of others, it's catch
