hedd-wyn
Anybody ever eaten one of these? I was given one by a mate of mine tonight and was wondering if there are any recipes going about? I've heard mixed reviews about eating these fish ATB Heddwch
Spaniel
Always thought they contained to many bones to eat
kent
I think the French eat them a fair bit, question is why do people kill stuff only to give it away to someone who might not even want it or know how to cook it? Its like the recent Mullet thread with six dead try one don't like it and the other go were?. I suggest kill one try it before killing any more or having to give them away, I am "nearly" always ready to try a thing once and give one away to friends if they are good but it should be done with any prep required and some ideas on how to cook it. Catch and release should always be an option but let us know what you do with it and how they are as table fish
islandgun
Iv'e tried it but it is very bony with soft flesh, could use it as part of a bouillabaisse or for stock, they seem to suffer badly from the bends if caught in deeper water and end up as seagull / crab food,
hedd-wyn
The guy that gave me the fish usually fillets them and puts them under the grill with butter hmmm Must admit, this recipe I've just found online sounds nicer http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/threads/the-crutchless-wonder-infamous-wrasse-thai-fish-cakes.143064/ Will let you know how I get on with it tomorrow
hedd-wyn
Well I think it's safe say that the Wrasse was a hit. I had some friends round last night and they absolutely loved it, even the squeamish couple that was over enjoyed the Wrasse fishcakes and the stewed rabbit Rabbit
ollie
Very good. What was the rabbit stewed in?
hedd-wyn
Very good. What was the rabbit stewed in? With homebrewed mead, onion, bacon, carrots and prunes. I floured the rabbit first, then browned them off then threw everything together and put in the oven for an hour covered in foil. Stunning Edited August 24, 2014 by hedd-wyn

When the weather turns a bit colder I will be regularly making some rabbit stews.

It's the best way in my opinion Ollie. Its a sure way of getting the older ones tender. I stewed one last winter with hobrewed stout, now that was a proper winter warmer
