Taz07733
Hi guys I wondered if anyone can help me I'm refinishing the woodwork on a gamebore side by side and really struggling to get the stock off theres no long bolt through the butt plate so I asumed it was just the one under the release lever and ones holding the trigger guard in place and underneath that I have removed all screws and bolts I can find and the action is loose in the stock but I just can't get it out Thanks in advance david
Harnser
Check that there are no more bolts and then give the stock a sharpe tap with the palm of you hand . It's Proberbly being held in place with stock oil or vanish . Or take the action in one hand and the stock in the other and wriggle them in opposite directions Harnser Edited September 19, 2014 by Harnser

Paul223
The trigger plate should come away first, you won't get the stock off with it in place

Gunman
If you cant figure it out and have to ask then sorry to say you should not be doing it . If you have problem taking apart then you will have just as many putting it back together if its the gun I think it is ,connecting the safe work can be a pain . MrPhantom
I saved this link when I was doing mine. Hector Vector's post in particular explains it well: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/198989-8-bore-greylag-stock-refinishing/?hl=%2Bstock+%2Brefinishing
Gunman
Pretty pictures but no mention that the gun should be held securely in a well padded vice when taking the pins out ,to avoid damage and slipping .Same with reassembly . brett1985
If you cant figure it out and have to ask then sorry to say you should not be doing it . If you have problem taking apart then you will have just as many putting it back together if its the gun I think it is ,connecting the safe work can be a pain . while i agree with the sentiment of this post, i do firmly belive that everyone needs to start somewhere. and what better place to start than an old sxs in need of a refurb? dave, its not to hard to remove the trigger plate, i have in the past seen people undo the main holding screw a few turns (the one underneath the top lever when its pushed to one side) and gently tap the top with a nylon mallet. this in turn will free the trigger plate from the rest of the action, allowing you to drop it out and remove the stock. i honestly cant remember how i did mine as it was a while ago now, but i think mine came free with just a little bit of a wiggle. if you can get the stock off, it will make your life ALOT easier. if your slightly worried about putting it back together for the reason gunman has stated, then why not take the action in to be cleaned and serviced by your local gunsmith/shop while you refurb the wood? then just let them have the wood and ask them to put it all back together for you. you'll end up with a gun thats almost as good as new! fresh wood, fresh action! win!
