Chezney
I was thinking about having some engraving work on my 682, and maybe some case colour hardening - it's a bit plain at the moment, but I would like to keep it. Has anyone had an experience doing this or an idea of the cost? Just seeing if it would be worth doing really! All the best!
figgy
The jg raving would go through the finish currently on the gun. If the action has already been heat treated by Beretta it will be very difficult to engrave. Colour case hardening might damage the strength and durability of the action. Buy another gun and lea to the sporter well alone, this is how they were made and people like them that way. What you like is a game gun look, sporters tend to a lot plainer looking. bostonmick
Even if this is possible it would be extremely expensive to get engraved by hand probably more than the gun is worth.also it would leave the metal bare and prone to rust very easily.have a look around there are loads of very nice engraved sporters out there.they are definitely not plain.some of the prettiest guns made are sporters .atb Edited September 21, 2014 by bostonmick
Gunman
Beretta like many production guns use a hardening process [cyanide ?] that is difficult to soften which it would need prior to engraving .Weather it would be then possible to re harden after is another question. It is possible to laser engrave without softening but the cost of programming would be prohibitive for a one off and case colour harden on top of the original hardening is a no no If you have the money to spend then up to you and I am sure there will be people willing to take it off you but personally I will say its a none starter from an economic point of view , this is why you do not see Beretta upgrades as you do with other guns . welshwarrior
The easy option and safest probably cheapest to is to buy a 682 deluxe or 682L. Engraved 682 silver action has the 687 game scene engraving on.
Chezney
Thanks guys, I was thinking that was going to be the consensus. Clearly buying what I want is the easier and probably cheaper thing to do!
