numpty
New farm I picked up a few weeks ago had asked me to keep an eye on his rape as one area in particular was likely to get hit and yesterday the pigeon were there. Luckily I have permission on the farm next door as the pigeon were flighting over a nice wide hedge towards the rape and as I could drive along the tram lines to get to it, saving a very long walk, I thought I would see if they would play for a while. Long story short, they did, whirly at top of a patten of double H decoys and they came in a treat. Plenty of young ones (put on one side for the frying pan) and a bag of 88 in just over 3 hours. Plenty of pigeon around my patch at present mainly on cultivated stubble or new drilling and if the rain holds off they will be around for a while. JDog
Good bag. Do you think that they were feeding on the rape or the remains of the barley from the previous crop?
sitsinhedges
Glad to see you're getting a few Mike. Apparently they've been on the young rape at Marks farm too.

I saw a few also yesterday but think it was like you say jdog the remaining barley, but could be wrong.
camojohn
You have done well to decoy over new rape. I’ve tied decoying twice on my perm and the pigeons just ignored the decoys. I went a 3rd time without decoys, ended up shooting just as many.
numpty
On checking it out, the rape was eaten, small plants coming through, crops on the shot birds were empty. Called the farmer this morning and he's chuffed to bits, turns out he was watching me and was about to flag it off the next day!
