Rob G
My fac is up for renewal,i'm thinking of getting a 17 after seeing how good they are. While in the gunshop today i looked at the mach II ammo it looks like a knecked down .22rf.Does anybody know anything about this round
Doggone
The mach2 is indeed a knecked down 22lr case and the hmr is a knecked down 22wmr case. Andy Haven't got one myself, just what I've learned on here
Dougy
just be done with it and go for the hmr here's a bunny and a federal 17 v max
njc110381
I think the mach II round flies at around 2100fps, compared to 2550 of the HMR. I don'r really see the point in it myself. It still breaks the sound barrier so can't be silenced, but has much less power than a HMR. Flat trajectory seems to be the main idea behind it, good out to 100 yards or so for rabbits. For all the noise you will be making, why not just get a HMR for that little extra range it provides (200 yards in calm conditions)? I don't think it has enough to offer to better a .22lr, and the .22 can be silenced with subs making it much better for sub 100 yard rabbit shots. That's my opinion on the subject
Peter_HMR
As far as i can see it offers no advantages over a .17hmr other than maybe noise but a moderator handles that it will still have the crack and possibily cost but also its not that common so maybe not other than that why would you buy a slightly more underpowered cartridge which is less common less available and less rifles chambered in it that is likely to die off in a couple of years .17hmr has everything and everyone going for it sometimes its good to go with the crowd
Rob G
Thanks for the replys,i am going for the hmr.

Rob G
Thats a interesting read thanks steve,at the moment i shoot .22rf and .243 .Im after a rifle that will be used for vermin control mainly,i think the 17hmr will be just the job
Peter_HMR
if you have a .22lr why not get a hornet or .223 to fiull the gap much better for foxes and .22lr will handle any smaller stuff
Rob G
I use my .243 for foxes and deer. The reason im after another is for the long range vermin crows, rabbits etc. After reading reports and seeing what my mates 17hmr is like i think this will fit the gap.Although i might take a look at the .
Peter_HMR
other calibres around that area are .17rem and .204ruger but if your not shooting anything bigger the .17hmr will do the job and is cheap to moderate and to shoot
