The Essex Hunter
I took my cocker pup out this morning along a bit of cover that always holds a few birds. He has picked up pigeons, duck, partridge and rabbits, also flushed a few birds during walks but today was a bit different..... With this mornings stiff breeze the birds went as I guessed they would....up!! We are starting to work as a team so I watch him and he watches me...he looks at the cover, I click the safety....."get in" loads of flapping and bang... Chip has to start some where, so I dropped them no more than 25 yards away..... It made my Dad smile when I came home so double bonus.... The gun is unloaded and broken.................!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx1P9y_06dY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwB07QoJFb0 TEH

The Essex Hunter
excellent mate I would be well chuffed with chips performance Thank you....I was well chuffed, still lots to work on as he has loads of drive as that is what I wanted. He keeps tight but like all teenagers.........easily distracted.... I take him beating on a partridge shoot so he mixes with other dogs etc, and keep him on the lead. One thing I have noticed since we started the season is he has changed at home and know sits by mine or Dads feet. I think he is leaving the teen age bit behind....bit still nicks my socks........ JDog
Rumour has it that you were doing flushing of a different kind last week. Chip is doing really well with your guidance. When you are on shoots where there are other dogs close by get him on a lead and let him watch them pick dead birds. In this way he will learn that not all retrieves are for him. We only walk the line and a second set of picker up's stand with the guns, the drives are all designed around tall hedges so you get to see the high misses!! When the drive is over I nip through the hedge pick out one of the guns and gesture where bird's are... I move him to work any wind, then send out the pocket rocket...lol..... Only one or two birds and then I sit him up, walk away with the guns then call him after I am 70 yards, then on the lead... TEH
butchdickason
Great looking dog, suggest you remove the collar when the dog is working. Butch
