Sealed battery charging

I use trickle chargers for all my batteries. I get them off Ebay for around a fiver each. ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-12-Volt-Trickle-Battery-Charger-Car-Van-Motorhome-Caravan-Motorbike-Quad-12v-/111169173753?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19e232f8f9 )They cost very little to run, and I leave them on constantly. Lidl's were also selling a good battery charger recently, which allowed the battery to be charged at a slow rate. Sometimes, charging a battery too quickly can damage it.

Doesn't always work like that. I had a flattish yuasa about 7 amp and I took it to work so that I could charge it all day on the charger there as I already had one charging on the trickle at home. I usually take two ad come back to the vehicle on route to offload any rabbits and change the battery over. I wasn't too fussed about the one that I took in to work and put it on the fork lift charger. What I didn't realise was that it had been put on 24V. The battery had been on charge for about an hour when I had a look at it. AHHH >> JEEZ there was STEAM jetting out of all top vents and it was SOO HOT that the case had buckled out into bulge ripples. It looked like a six pack. I thought " Well that's B'd that" and I just took it off charge and left it there until the end of the day. I just tried it out of curiosity and wow the lamp was super bright. SO I took it home and thought " I'll take it out and do a field or two around the farm, if it packs in then I'll just go back and change it over. That battery lasted all night and was the best battery I had for a very long time. It's a wonder it didn't explode with that kind of aggressive charging

Agreed. But continous fast charging can reduce the life span of the battery.
