Thanks John!

Thats an interesting read.

Am I right in assuming if I was to find the land to shoot on I could bypass the .22RF and apply for a .22 hornet if i was to claim i was shooting Fox AND rabbit but didn't want to have 2 guns on my ticket

Yep, it means exactly that. Quite often in that document, although it doesn't actually instruct the police to do it specifically, the guidance always leans towards one rifle rather than two of differing cals.

I dont see as leaning more of "insisting" 22 hornet is CENTER FIRE same caliber different beast? 2400fps and 45g hence the reason it was called the hornet 2400, .22 lr is rimfire and normally subsonic ie less than 1100fps and 40g though as we all know we can get stingers up to 1700 fps but these negate the advantages of using subs.

.22lr is also considered a short range bullet ie up to 150 yards after that its drop is near impossible to compensate for, whilst the hornet should be accurate out to 200yard no prob

chances of getting a center fire on a 1st off ticket are somewhat like entering a lottery it depends on your location, BUT getting fox on your ticket for .22lr even less likely.

The yanks do shoot fox with .22lr indeed an elk is the largest recorded "victim" of .22lr but just because it can dont mean you should.

I tried to get my hmr .17 worded for "FOX" and was refused but offered .17 remmy ( to exotic) .22 hornet

(dont want one) so I said ok .243 will do and you can put deer on as well, so thats what they did,and thats what I got and you DONT get runners with this baby.

cheers KW

OK OK this is getting confusing!

So basically WHEN i get an FAC (more IF than when) I MAY have to start off with .22lr ANYWAY and then after a lengthy wait put in for a Variation to go Centre fire?

When i saw Mark Bivvy he had a .223 for Fox and i was sure he mentioned he asked for a Larger Calibre marked for Vermin (fox etx) but was refused!

I am not sure if he managed to sort anything out but it seems weird that they are not willing to give certain calibres for one specific quarry BUT if you add Another species they will give you the higher cal and allow the use for smaller quarry like Fox

Can i ask WHY you didn't want a .22 Hornet? Is it just a inbetween calibre that is of No use to you or is there a more direct reason (like they are no good?)

Thanks

i have the 223 for fox and asked that vermin be added to that calbre.

no chance, have been trying now for about 3 years to get it changed.

so i got the hornet for fox and vermin, as they wont give me fox on the hmr or 22 rf.

Sorry Mark my mistake i knew you had been refused but thought it was for a bigger calibre not for adding different Vermin to the ticket <_<
