lee m
I am an experienced keeper looking to take on voluntary role on small shoot, this is not a try to get some shooting permission scam, I have an extensive knowledge of rearing pheasants grey and French partridge and duck, as I said I am not after shooting and all my vermin control methods are done the old school ways by trapping. I would like a small friendly shoot or syndicate, so no large commercial shoots please, would be prepared to relocate so anything considered. Billy.
I think this guy deserves a bump. New member aside, if I was keen, I'd go somewhere like this. I've worked as an unpaid gamekeeper in the past and it's truly an under appreciated thing really. You get up at 5am, work your backside off and still get grief for not working hard enough. The guns all think you're paid and treat you as such and then it's back to the endless task of keeping mindless animals where they should be. Good luck mate. Try beating/picking opportunities and making the most of the contacts through that. Gamekeepers get sacked, so there's always a chance you'll hear of an opportunity. Flashman
Catamong, on 06 Nov 2014 - 07:05 AM, said: And you're prepared to do all this on an unpaid basis, you must be a very rich man..? Cat. Why even mention that? It's a bit crass to start nit picking when the chap has made a open offer to provide his services. It's up to somebody taking up the offer to explore the terms of his engagement, not for idle passers-by to put him on the defensive before he's even out of the gate! Good luck with your search. Please PM me if you find anything in the area, as I am moving to Surrey and will be looking for a Shoot for next season.
Catamong
I mentioned it because it's the first question that any potential employer would ask..? Nobody works for nothing unless they are independently wealthy, everyone needs some income in order to survive. However, let's take this chap at face value, I would welcome the services of an unpaid keeper on my shoot in Herts, so please pm me for more details. pboro shot
Keepers wages are very low believe me, im sure I work for free sometimes if you do take a free position atleast have some expenses paid ie fuel ammo clothing dog etc if not you will be hugely of of pocket good luck
lee m
even as a full time paid keeper i have always had to have a second job just to make ends meat, if i can get what i want from finding the right place, whats the difference anyway? in this job it aint the money that matters, and small family run shoots never pull a profit to employ even a part time keeper, and in 2014 there gold dust anyway.
