bornfree
Yes that means 35 thou . Full choke is normally 40 thou. 1/2 is 20 thou 1/4 is 10 thou.

Westward
0 = cylinder, 5 = skeet, 10 = quarter, 15 = 3/8, 20 = half, 25 = 5/8, 30 = three quarter, 35 = seven eighths, 40 = full, 45 = extra full
Crumpler1991
cheers for that I didn't have a clue when I got them out lol
HDAV
They are teague thin walls and there will be a serial number laser etched onto them if you want/need any more you need to give the number to teague and they can make more to the spec for that gun. The constrictions are relative to the bore

Crumpler1991
yes ill do it after work tomorrow don't really know much about it I saw it in gun shop and loved the feel of it are they hand made? also how do you find chokes do they throw good patterns?
Scully
The 101 is one of the best handling guns around in my opinion. I have had quite a few over the years and currently own a Grand European. They were made in Japan via the Olin Corporation under license to Winchester if I recall, and production finished in the late 1980's I think, but without looking I could be wrong. The gun I have with slim fitting Teagues is a Gamba; and yes the chokes throw excellent patterns. A mate had his Beretta 301 fitted with slim Teagues also, and he is mightily impressed also. You have a very nice gun there; have fun. If you want extra chokes, simply ring Teague, quote your guns serial number, and they will send you whatever constriction you want. Crumpler1991
Having the wood done in couple of weeks so looking forwad to that are these steel proof?
Scully
Looks very nice' thanks for the pic's. No, they aren't steel proofed despite some models having 'Winchester Proofed Steel' stamped on them. This was just a marketing slogan to emphasise how strong Winchester guns are and is on both my 1300 XTR and 1500 XTR. The high gloss finish is standard Winchester finish on some models. Some like it some don't. The only time I don't is when it has worn patchy in places. This is one of mine, currently owned by a mate, with a high gloss finish. It was in almost mint condition when I bought it, with pin sharp chequering in most places. It is a lovely bog standard 101 game gun with 27" barrels and fixed chokes at 1/4 and 1/2. Enjoy your gun, I doubt very much it will depreciate much in value. Great guns. Edited November 17, 2014 by Scully
Crumpler1991
It looks stunnin mate and very hard to find a original minter like yours. I like the high gloss finish im hoping to have it shalaced i actualy went in shop pick up a new gun but then i had a feel of this and it was an easy choice
Scully
It looks stunnin mate and very hard to find a original minter like yours. Thankyou. I went to a local RFD's to leave a S1 Remington auto with which I was tired of carrying around the weight, on the understanding I could part -ex it at anytime when he had in something I fancied. As it happened I immediately spotted the 101 in the pic', and having never found one in such good condition I took it from the rack and placed it on his desk as 'bought' in case someone else came in and wanted it while I carried on browsing. Anyhow, also found a 1500 XTR in extremely good condition so left the shop with them both, wondering how I was going to make up the outlay. I like the high gloss finish im hoping to have it shalaced I like the high gloss finish also, and unless yours definitely need redoing, I'd leave it as is. The 1500 XTR has a high gloss finish, but my 1300 XTR has no finsih at all other than that I rub into it. My Grand European has had the finish taken back (as it was in dire need of it) and professionally refinished and the chequering recut. i actualy went in shop pick up a new gun but then i had a feel of this and it was an easy choice I did something very similar many years ago now. I'd gone into a local RFD in search of another Browning 325 to replace the one I'd sold some years earlier and found an old 101 Lightweight with a plain black action and a wide trap like fore end. I'd read quite a bit about how highly they were rated by many so picked it up. It just came up so nicely, bang on the button, so I bought that instead. Since then I've had many, but have often thought I shouldn't have sold that first one. Let us know how you get on with your Supergrade. Crumpler1991
another silly question is that on barrels it sais 2.75 I presume this is chamber size so will 70mm carts be fine to use as most guns are 3"?
Scully
As far as I'm aware the 101 was never made with chambers less than 2 and 3/4", but many were made with 3" chambers, so yes, 70mm cartridges will be fine. Someone on here very recently posted a site for dating Winchester guns, but I have done a search and can't find it, sorry.
