Below is my latest installment from our syndicate shoot.

It was one of those days!!! First I forgot the dog whistle which is a right pain in the backside, then I shot like a complete tube!!!

Anyway I got some footage, our next decent shoot is Boxing Day, so hopefully I'll be shooting better then:

Good Clip' Youse seem to have plenty of birds about. Nice looking little Cocker too and nice Roughshooting country.

One thing I find a bit unusual' is the fact that you include Crows/Rooks in your day out Roughshooting.

Each to there own I suppose' but I would not raise a gun to a Rook when roughshooting. If a chance at a Greyback presented itself I would probably shoot it.

thanks for posting.

We are plagued every season by rooks & jackdaws eating the wheat from the pheasant feeders, so any chance we get to shoot a couple we take it.

The farmer who owns the ground wants them shot too as they ruin crops & eat feed from sheep feeders. As you say each to their own.👍

that's some stunning countryside mate

Yes we are very lucky. Cheers

We are the same. We take any chance for the same reasons. Nice video. Glad to see I'm not the only one off shooting form at the minute! You still managed a nice bag though.

I know what I was doing...I wasn't swinging with the birds. That's why I like the videos because you can see what you are doing wrong. Back out tomorrow for a bit of rough shooting, so hopefully back on form.

Re the corvids, as soon as we take the net off the top of the pen they start at the feeders. They can't be decoyed in this area, so we have to take pot shots when we can. It's nice to get a mixed bag too

I wasnt having a go ollie. I shoot Crows for my farmer friends when they sow cereal crops Winter/spring and also when they come onto windblown crops in later in the year.

I also have a rookery half a mile down the road that has thousands of Rooks/daws and is one of many in the parish. I actually Shot two rooks in the front garden the other morning as they where attacking the food i have out for the Garden birds.

The reason I find it unusual ' from a personal perspective is that When i am roughshooting I would be after pheasants, woodcock, snipe, duck, partridge and the occasional Bunny.

And if I was to shoot at every crow i saw when in the field' then it would Scare other game in the immediate vicinity. A couple of examples...A couple of rooks or jackdaws flies overhead and I shoot at them' there is every chance the shots Could flush a wisp of snipe, flush a woodcock from cover, cause a pheasant to Run and possibly fly off or Send some ground game bolting down a hole' all of which could possibly have been bagged if i let the crows go.

I will also add that we dont keep feeders' We keep on top of vermin and let our birds go as poults early in the year before the season starts' gives them a chance to get accustomed to their surroundings and hopefully be that bit wilder and harder to hunt.

Of course you will be well in the know' regarding the topography of your Ground' and you have your practical reasons for shooting crows when you get the chance' So Who am i..? to be questioning your actions.!!

Just a thought on your troublesome crows..have you ever tried to come to terms with them returning to their roost.? Its a good time of year to spend an hour before dusk on the outskirts of a rookery or wood they roost in' if you get the chance as they will come streaming in shortly before dark.. Not very testing shooting but will reduce there numbers somewhat.

As I said previously' i enjoyed your video.

I know you weren't having a go & I appreciate your reply.

On the way to roost is not an option as the rookery is beside houses & the owner of the land is not keen on shooting. I do decoy some of them in the summer when the silage is cut on the shoot, but we still like to pop them off when we get a chance.

Fair play you don't have feeders, but I think the feeders are a must on a syndicate shoot. We also can't let poults out of the pen too early as there are loads of buzzards in the area, in the summer it's not unusual to count 7 or 8 in the air at once.
