Field trials

I would start with working tests first and see how you go on. The problem with trials especially retriever is that they are massively over subscribed and to get a run you would have to be a member of a lot of clubs. There are plenty of tests over the summer months and if you go on the kc website you will find a list of clubs. Contact your local secretaries and they should tell you when their tests are.

Cheers

Have u been and watched lab trials or any other FT's? If u havenae watched 1 go and watch a few.

If u go on KC website will be a list of all the FT left and where they are plus contact info etc

They are very different to a normal shooting day and depending on the shooting u do, not all aspects will really help a normal shooting dog. Trialling is now an almost seperate specialised field rather than just very good working dogs which it was in the past

While i enjoy watching them occasionally they are not the be all and end all and to be honest would rather go shooting for a day over my dogs than enter a trial (not that my dogs are good enough anyway, but have done ok in tests in the past), even if u do well u might only run ur dog for 30 mins.

Personally not my thing, but it takes all sorts. But it is great to see dogs trained to such a high level

+1

Working tests will give you a good indication if your dog is good enough to trial, too.
