docholiday
Went out this evening for my first tripod 2015 using 100g hollow point through a 7m-08, made them up over Christmas and tried them out on the range yesterday, seem to have found a good recipe, both deer and fox were 100 -105 yds, As you can see from the neck angle it's a pretty hard hitting round, will only use them for neck shots as I think it could get a bit messy around the shoulder, chest !! the fox was hit head on in the chest and was just a bag of jelly Edited January 2, 2015 by docholiday

Underdog
I love the 7mm-08 I never understood why Remington came out with the 260Rem with the 7mm-08 out there. That and the Swede so popular. Mind you same could be said for the 7-08 and 7x57! Either are nice rounds U.
Fisheruk
How does that compare with a 30-
docholiday
Its a necked down 308 cartridge, (Iuse 308 brass as its easier and cheaper to get hold of) I don't know theres much difference said to be slightly more accurate but who knows. I wouldn't want to be hit by either !!! AHHHHH just re read your post thought you said 308, I have never used 30-08 Edited January 2, 2015 by docholiday

steve_b_wales
Nice one doc. Why don't you add your fox to our 2015 tally and start the ball rolling? http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/301765-how-many-foxes-are-killed-by-pw-members-in-2015/
Underdog
308 in my opinion (so quite possibly pointless), is a shade more snappy recoil wise. I put this down to commonly used mid speed rifle powders and fair weight bullets. If speed is not an issue I found heavy bullets and slower powders softened the recoil a lot in 308. With the 7 and 6.5mm we can use slightly slower powders, that and generally lighter bullets make for pleasant shooting. Sorry for the rabble, just love that 308 case. The father to it was the 30 Savage but never got the recognition it deserved. U.
white van man
With my 7mm-08 I am using Barnes TTSX 140gr ,with BLC-2 the damage is minimal. I have been testing with my .308 and found a 150gr works well, with this I used Vhit 140. A Muntie hit at 80 yds ran on for another 60yds,it was a heart lung shot as well, again the damage was acceptable. One of my mates uses a 30.06 but slows it down and that doesn't seem to bad on damage either. Cheers Steve.
