OddJob
I have a farm that wishes for me to deal with some deer on their land and so I have put in for my FAC. The FEO has, quite rightly, told to me to nip off to get some experience in stalking/dealing with the animal before he grants my FAC. I have a game keeper friend said he will take me out, but he is a busy boy and so this is taking a while to materialise. I was thinking about a DSC 1 anyway and wondered if anyone knew of people other than BASC/NGO running them in Essex/surrounding counties? I need a weekend jobby as, being a teacher, I cannot get time off for the 3 day events. Had a look at the Jalen ones but they are a long way off. Alternatively, if someone is willing to take out a decent, quick learning and obedient person next time they go, I'd be hugely obliged. Mungler
I did the BASC one Harlow way (and I think I bought the jelen deer identification DVD thingy which was very useful and easy to get on with). It was a nice few days out of the office and with like minded people. I'd do it again. The DSC2 was of interest but it's pretty time and record keeping intensive and I don't think it would fit in round work.
Mr. Merkel
The current BASC magazine is showing 2 DSC1 courses being run at the Essex shooting school, Thornwood Common, Epping in June and December this year if its of help. I did see those on the website, was just hoping to get it done a little sooner. May just have to go for the independent learning option and then do the assessments separately. Scotty99
John Bradshaw Gunshop run them over two weekends with a free weekend in the middle might be a bit too far to travel depends where you are in Essex.
Scotty99
Also I did my Pre-DSC1 at John Bradshaw's Gun Shop - they have good training facilities above the shop and they do realistic shooting tests on nearby farm land.
