hey guys, iv googled this and couldnt find an actual answer so here i am  !!

if i decide i didnt actually want my semi auto ruger 22lr anymore and would much prefer something bolt action instead how do i go about it ??

is it as simple as selling the ruger, emailing the police the details of the sale in the usual way, thus clearing the slot, and then buying what i should have got in the 1st place, or am i missing loads and its really much, much more complicated than that ????

cheers all :good:

Ok, sell rifle to RFD or someone with an open slot for a .22 LR rifle. You write it on his ticket, inform police within 7 days you want a 1 for 1 variation. Send FAC to police with variation form from basc or police website. Wait for FAC to return ( good luck with that ) then if they grant buy .22 bolt gun. Easy..

jez i reckon with a tad more effort they could make that slightly more time wasting and difficult - i knew i was under-estimating it

thanks Iain, i think ill not bother and just plod on with what i have, doesnt really seem worth the hassle to just save a few rimfire bullets

Why not apply for a bolt action and keep the auto till licence comes back then sell auto if you want or just keep it no reason why you cannot have two 22 rifles

tbh i just dont really want anymore rifles than i need or use, i sorta guessed it'd be a pita so im not too suprised about how its done - thankfully its not important

the other reason is i will soon be applying for a variation for a centerfire and was going to do a 1 for 1 if poss with the 22lr as thats the one ill hardly use, thus not really need :good:

The only issue with selling and a one for one swap is you'll be without a rifle for as long as your licensing department take to return the license.

If you're applying for a centrefire variation anyway, you'll have to pay for that, so might as well stock up on ammo, add a bolt action 22 onto the variation along with the centrefire, then once you've got your FAC back, you can part-ex or sell your semi-auto 22 when you buy the new one.

thanks guys, although i reckon i hide it well i think you can all obviously see this is all very new to me

i thought id swap the ruger for something bolty as the 10/22 doesnt like nice quiet subs which is the only reason i wanted a 22, it happily cycles cci mini mags etc but they are pretty loud so i tend to just use my hmr instead

wouldnt it be nice if this sort of thing could just be dealt with instantly inhouse by a rfd instead :)

Advising them of a sale does not clear a slot, it terminates the slot.

You must make it clear you want a 1 for 1.

:good:
