FAC application question

Hello,

My shotgun certificate will be up for renewal later this year and I am also going to apply for a Firearms certificate.

Apart from using shotguns (for 10 years) and air rifles I have no experience of using rifles. I do however have my own land to shoot on which I'm sure is a bonus.

I would like a rifle to shoot rabbits and the odd fox. Is there a calibre that would suffice for both?

I may also consider applying for a large capacity shotgun ie a five shot pump action. We often get a number rats that need dealing with and I find myself having to reload my 3 shot pump as rats are escaping. A five shot would more efficient.

I appreciate any thoughts and advice.

Thanks.

or a 17 hmr will do rabbits and foxes

True, though if you really want only one gun, a .22WMR is just as effective (if not more so) and a heavier bullet for fox (i.e. 50gr) wouldn't hurt. You couldn't put anything so big through a HMR, but you can drop down to a 30gr pill for bunnies in the WMR.

No idea whether the feeding costs will be the same, but I'd have thought they were pretty similar.
