BaconBoy
I had to burn a broken handle out of a hammer head but left it in the fire too long, when I took the hammer head out of the fire it was glowing red.i left it outside over night to cool down. I was wondering if it would still be safe to use again, would the heat affect the metal? would it shatter when it hits something? cheers
bruno22rf
Try hitting a hot Crumpet first-if all is well then work your way up a little at a time till you finish on something really hard-first thing in the morning you should find something

CaptainBeaky
If it cooled down slowly, it's unlikely to have hardened. More likely you will have taken the temper out of the face, and it will now dent whenever you hit anything with it :(
