all depends what youre shooting and what guns youre going to get, 20g is just as effective as a 12g most of the time. .22lr should be fine for up to about 80 yards depending on your skill, for rabbits and other vermin. also very cheap for plinking and lots of shooting!

stick with .22lr for the moment and then once more experience gained and confidence, you can apply for .17hmr or .22 magnum, or even small centrefire if youre after fox etc.

My son got granted SGC/FAC at 15. He owns no shot guns in name, they are on my cert. The FAC is open but he can only use my guns (firearms)on a shared basis and has no acces to either SG or Firearm without my presence.I did consider surrendering both when he started acting like a proper teenager and after conversations with the FEO,decided he would not shoot until he grew up a bit.

He has been shooting since he was eight, starting on air rifles, then 410 then on to 12g and has always shown safety in the field and used to be out 3 nights a week on the rabbits with me and then decoying every weekend.Getting his FAC/SGC seemed the right thing to do when he reached 15, but then the dreaded Kevin attitude started along with girls and shooting took a back seat .At the moment I dont feel he is responsible enough to hold FAC/SGC,therefore he has 3 yrs to grow up or his certs will not be renewed.

Get youself on the BASC website and also read the conditions on your local firearms licencing web pages.Do you have someone who can take you out so you can see a rimmy in action as although it's a small round,it's a wicked little round so perticular attension to knowledge of land layout and backstops is crutial( you should have this attitude with any cal, even sub 12lb air.I got an FAC air for my son to get on with, but we found he favoured the rimmy more. The FAC air was a pig to sell on,but never got used.

Try and get out with someone, sure someone on here would take you under their wing if you had a few extra posts to your name.Where are you located can't see it on your avitar.
