I heard you guys like patterns

Recommended Posts

All shot though a Browning Maxus 3.5" Chamber at 40 yards with a Muller Decoy Choke Installed (nominal quarter choke).

Outline is the standard 30" circle. Centres where shown are a standard size clay.

Also I was holding the gun very flat for the steel loads - the gun patterened a little higher than I expected. My natural hold is a bit lower anyway and used this for the lead patterns.

Eley Pigeon Fibre 32gm 6.5 Shot (Measured pellet diameter 2.52mm = 335 pellets in cartidge). 33% Pattern.

Also measured pellet diameters for other steel cartridges:

Lyalvale Supreme Steel No.4 3.05mm

Eley Lightning Steel No.5 3.07mm

Gamebore Super Steel No.5 3.05mm

Hull Steel Game No.5 3.08mm

Eley Lightning Steel No.1 3.82mm

Lyalvale Steel Game No.5 2.80mm

It seems most UK manufacturers use continental sizes (i.e. one size bigger) for their steel loads apart from lyalvale, who seem to use the english sizes.
