beesley121
Hi guys, Looking to get into target shooting but I would let to make sure I'm capable of shooting a good enough group at long range in ideal conditions before venturing into the outdoor world. I'm based in between Manchester and Liverpool can anyone tell me if there are any long range indoor facility's near me. I'm sure I've heard about a disused railway tunnel but no idea where it is and how long it is Any help appreciated
Westley
Why not contact some rifle clubs. There are several clubs that use Altcar rifle ranges, at Hightown, Merseyside, every Sunday. Although outdoor ranges, they shoot at distances out to 1000 yards. Aintree Rifle and Pistol Club, 101 Rifle Club are just 2 that I am aware of, but I feel sure that a web search would turn up some more. They may also be able to assist with your search for an indoor range.

robbiep
beesley, if you fancy coming down to Sealand ranges then get in touch with Phoenix shooting association, and come down as a visitor. you'll have someone with you on a 1-to-1 basis (you have to, until you've got you Certificate of Competence), but everyone is most welcoming and friendly. If you go here : http://www.phoenixshooters.co.uk/contact-us/ Drop the club a line, and check if you can come down on one of the range days, turn up, range fee (£4 for visitors, I think), and your ammo costs. Unless wind is ridiculous (like today was, for example), then something like 223 will stay on paper, with rarely more than a couple of inches wind drift at 100 metres. jimmydean
There is a gun club at Bangor (railway tunnels) which is limited to not much beyond 100 yards (it used to be more but structural stability issues) there is the underground 100 metre range at Calton Moor (nr Leek) which is very useful for a .223 e.g. It is constructed from buried 3 feet dia concrete sewer pipes with proper butts to shoot (not prone though). I dont know of one beyond the 100 metres but with a ballistic calculator do you really need one?

old man
As jimmy said above, Mike Dickinson at Calton Moor, Derbyshire has indoor at 100 yds. Nice guy who can really shoot.
