OddJob
I've just got my FAC through and I had asked for a 243 for deer, as recommended by a stalking friend. On the certificate the rifle is stated as a 243 win (I know this is short for the Winchester). However I wanted to check that the majority of rifles that are sold as 243 are the 243 win? Or does the 'winchester' element just relate to the bullet and thus I can purchase any 243 rifle? I am new to the world of ammunition and there is lots to know. Thanks. robbiep
The only things to watch out for and avoid are the 243 Ackley Improved (also called the 243AI) and the 243 WSSM. They are pretty rare though
Dougy
Just a thought, can you buy 243 AI over the counter or 243 WSSM ?
robbiep
Just a thought, can you buy 243 AI over the counter or 243 WSSM ? If you mean ammunition, then I've no idea. I'd imagine it's pretty rare though. Rifles, I've only ever seen them second-hand. I know that 223 AI was moderately popular with the BR boys for a while, but I've only ever seen one rifle in that calibre, and the guy that owned it ended up scrapping it, as he couldn't sell it privately and nobody would take it in part/ex. Bewsher500
Just a thought, can you buy 243 AI over the counter or 243 WSSM ? AI yes WSSM unlikely only ypur FEO can tell you what they are willing to sanction doubt any RFD would risk it without confirmation from your licencing authority
Underdog
I don't think an Ackley is a cal in the licencing dept. Its just an improved version of whatever!
achosenman
AI is not considered as a a chambering in its own right by the authorities. ATB
