Started at 8:30am going round the rest of my perm putting big white bin bags on willow canes, scared off about fifty gathering on a power line, sun was out and a nice northeasterly blowing, thing were looking good! by the time I'd done that and set up it was getting on for 11, no dead birds so i laid out 12 Hd decoys and a bouncer ( no battery operated stuff yet) settled into my ditch, no need for hide and poured a brew, a jackdaw was first in the bag followed by 26 pigeons! Including two doubles! Best bag yet I shot well, was visited by a kingfisher, heron and a buzzard, I was one happy bunny! Till I packed up, went to the field I'd set all the bags in, started to gather them in, halfway round took a pot shot at a passing stoggie and cloud of pigeons erupted from the far end of the rape field! I'd guess at 200/300! Couldn't believe it! Still had a good day but just took the shine off it!

Cheers JDOG i did enjoy it,i was hoping the poly bags would have been more affective though, sounds more like it FUDDSTER I'll look into them, can't see my farmer giving anything away, he begrudges parting with farts!

i use banger ropes at one end of a field if i think the birds will relocate-each rope is about £3 so its a cheap way of getting them lifted and on the move.

one farm even provides them free.

try it.

Buy some warning tape from the Hardware shop/ Tools Direct, Red and White or Blue and White the colour is not important.

Cut into 6 metre lengths (again not important) and tie it to the tops of bamboo canes.

Place them around the area you want to cover and away you go.

Very cheap and very effective, a few canes cover a large area, and even in the lightest of winds the tape moves very easily.

Good day, well done!

My comments on the comments- JDog is dead right (again!) as to why birds were on the next field. In my area banger ropes don't work, they lift off and land again 50 yards along the field, Bakerboys idea of the tapes is something I use with better results than bangers or flags. Bit of a pain clearing them up though.

Cheers,

JK

Cheers lads! Good tips I'm going to try both but next week in going to switch field, there's hedgerows on the other field aswell so I can set up properly, my legs are killing from squating in a ditch all day!
