lord_seagrave
As the title really. I like the look of these and wondered if any of you had any tips when looking for a used one? Any models/specs to avoid or packages to particularly look out for? What's reasonable mileage for a 5 or 6 year-old? Any and all comments welcome. Cheers, LS
Suffolkngood
If you buy one you must wear sunglasses to prevent arc eye from everyone flashing you to tell you you've left your lights on
lord_seagrave
I'm well used to that. Had a couple of 340s back in the day, followed by a couple of 440s. Not exactly boy racer material. Captain Sensible. LS
ferguson_tom
I had one a few years ago and was a lovely motor, the alternator went on mine but it had done over 100,000 miles. My boss had it off me and as far as I know still going strong. I had the 2.0 diesel with 6 speed box and had plenty of grunt. only thing to suggest is leave the r design ones the suspension is hard and tyres are just expensive strips of rubber. The standard handled well but comfy on the commute.
jonny thomas
Great cars as for mileage shop around as they tend to be reps cars less than 70000 ideally that said a well maintained car with high milage would be better than a car with half that mileage which hadn't been looked after
Thunderbird
I know some one with one of those, the 'DriveE' model which has the option to cut the engine when it's stationary. I've often wondered about the wisdom of this, OK so you're not using fuel whilst idling but the wear and tear of constantly starting the engine has to off-set that in other ways. Nice car though. I also heard that you should use 'proper' diesel too, not the bio stuff, though again, not sure if this is right.
malmick
Have a read here. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=58 I've had a V70 D5 2002 from new, it still puts a grin on my face and owes me nothing.
Richard756
I had a v50 as a company car it was a great car to drive done 120000 and very comfy but that's all I can say about it. I think I just got a bad one unfortunately they exist in every make and model. The main things that went wrong where 1) central locking fob never worked more than a couple of months (went in numerous times for this) 2)air con never ever worked 3) fuel tank dropped off while driving. If you see one with DG11 HHM stay away Edited May 5, 2015 by Richard756
