Staffy1
I have recently seen loads of crows and magpies whilst out rabbit shooting many waddling up top within twenty meters or so of my hide. Now on the shoots i have seen them they are n't considered pests and the shoots are rabbit only permissions . I mainly pest shoot rabbits but recently got asked to bag a few crows around a small pond where the little blighters were taking moorhen chicks which the framer wsas fond of. I managed to bag one with my old HW99 spring rifle . Yesterday I went out to another shoot where they are on the shooting/ general licence list as they are considered a pest as the farmer has sheep and breeds game birds/ ducks so they are considered vermin. I set up my hide I put down my seat and tripod like I usually do when rabbiting , I put my Chinese cheapo ( but effective ) net round, added some jack pike see through netting inside to make it harder to see in, put some scrim over the gap between the bushes and top of the netting . The grass is a bit longer than when i last came and there were not many crows about compared to my last visit The hide seemed to work , jackdaws made numerous trips, I don't shoot jackdaws so I watched them merrily pop back wards and forwards for several hours , they seemed to avoid the rabbit . A couple of crows came and had a look but didn't stop. I missed a rabbit but managed to bag a wood pigeon at twenty five meters so not a wasted trip but funny the crows didn't show may be they are as wily as people say they are !!! Now there is a dead tree on this shoot so nest time I am going to try a owl decoy and set up hide near the tree

WelshMike
They are bright old birds. I shoot a fair few with the 12 bore but to get them stationary and within range of an air rifle takes some real skill. You may want to try lofting a few crow decoys into the tree and see how that goes. Good luck and keep up the good work.

JDog
A good post. However I do not understand how anyone, let alone someone running a shoot, could fail to see that corvids were pests.

Staffy1
Crows and lambs are not a good mix but Jackdaws ? , I am not sure If they take game bird eggs but If I am not asked to shoot them i wouldn't. If i had a shoot were they were a right pest I would
Underdog
They take anything, ground nesting birds are threatened by them.
