Surely if you want something a bit more powerful but enjoy your air rifle would you not be better off with a FAC Air Rifle or rimmie? Shotgun shooting is described as an art where as rifles are science. As such too very different types of shooting!
njc110381
Surely if you want something a bit more powerful but enjoy your air rifle would you not be better off with a FAC Air Rifle or rimmie? Shotgun shooting is described as an art where as rifles are science. As such too very different types of shooting! I thought a shotgun would be great for the same reasons as you do, but you gain very little in terms of range. The only thing you do gain is being able to hit moving targets, and if you're used to rifle shooting it's not as simple as it looks! If I were you, I'd join a gun club for a start. You'll learn from that what you really want to get, and more to the point learn enough for the FEO to let you have one! You're old enough to own one, but they do like you to have a good idea of the safety aspects of the kit you're asking for before they'll let you have any of it! From what you're saying a rimfire rifle would be better for you, but with your current knowledge, you're unlikely to get a FAC without learning a bit more about firearms. An added bonus of joining a club, is you'll get to use a wide range of guns for not much money. Then you'll have more idea of the one you like, and can buy the right gun first time rather than spending a fortune on something that isn't ideal for your needs and regretting it later

peter-peter
im looking to buying a shotgun side by side around £200 depends what you are going to shoot , if its game a s/s is fine you can pick up some good spanish s/s's fer £200 quid and good guns at that. if you are going to clay shoot. different matter, I would say go for an under and over and get a bit of old hand help to make sure it fits you or you will find the clays difficult to hit. the russian baikals are a good reliable gun to start with. they are cheap, BUT IF IT DON'T FIT YOU. you will find life a struggle remember .this buy in haste repent at leasure
