Duckman91
my father in law is about to give up his shotgun licence and he is in Northern Ireland. I'm in England I would like to take his gun and put it on my licence. anyone know the best way or should I just rfd transfer it. the only thing is it's an old bakil and not worth much at all it's more for centimental reasons so probably the rfd costs would outweigh the price of the gun. phaedra1106
As NI is part of the UK he can post it at the Post Office (as long as it's sent to an RFD), that would probably save you a bit of money
longspoon
Doing it in reverse, my lad picked up a shotgun in England and flew (Easyjet) back to NI with it, no probs. Not sure if this helps !
Big Al
Doing it in reverse, my lad picked up a shotgun in England and flew (Easyjet) back to NI with it, no probs. Not sure if this helps ! I take it he already had it listed on his PSNI Firearms Certificate before he flew. Firearms legislation is not the same here as the rest of the UK and is significantly tighter - every type of firearm from centre fire rifle to sub 12ft/lb air rifle requires a firearms certificate. Shotguns too. I can't help the OP out but recommend contacting PSNI Firearms and explosives branch if there is any uncertainty. The phone number is listed on their website. Good advice. Rfd to rfd is the same. Give me a shout if you need to find an rfd in NI. Edited June 24, 2015 by Big Al
Duckman91
thanks big Al I have just sent psni an email so I'll see what they say. I have brought my own gun over before on a certificate of approval from psni so I imagine I will get a certificate of approval and then take possession of the gun while I'm there and brig it back. Big Al do you know what he would do as in can you sell a gun private in NI if so how do you notify psni of this?
Big Al
thanks big Al I have just sent psni an email so I'll see what they say. I have brought my own gun over before on a certificate of approval from psni so I imagine I will get a certificate of approval and then take possession of the gun while I'm there and brig it back. Big Al do you know what he would do as in can you sell a gun private in NI if so how do you notify psni of this? All sale transactions that are straight swaps of like for like (known as one on one offs) are done through an rfd and it is the rfd who must inform PSNI of the transaction. It is usually a form signed by you and rfd in store that is faxed to PSNI before you leave the shop. Most rfds will put a gun you want to sell on their shelves and take a commission for the service. If I want to buy my mates gun, it still must go through an rfd (for a handling fee) and the rfd informs PSNI as usual if it is a straight swap, otherwise it is classed as a variation and must be done through PSNI directly. If you are adding a gun to an existing fac then the application for the variation must be made directly to PSNI. The rfd gives you a note detailing the new gun that is to be added. If you intend giving up a gun or guns then this too is classed as a variation and must be done through PSNI. A variation costs £26 and take weeks or months to come through. Edit to expand on my original answer. Edited June 24, 2015 by Big Al
