30-6
I am looking to get a new scope for a hmr. I have decided on a Hawke Endurance, i like the SF and IR dot but which one ? This one http://www.hawkeoptics.co.uk/endurance-5-15x50-lr-dot.html or this one http://www.hawkeoptics.co.uk/endurance-4-16x50-lr-dot.html What would the 30mm tube give me over the 25mm tube ? Except a higher price and i already have 25mm mounts.
matone
30mm was conceived to give greater adjustment range ,that`s all.
r1steele
What rifle would you be mounting it on? My father tried the endurance 30 on his cz hmr (silhouette)and there wasn't enough room to lift the bolt handle unless he used high mounts which gave him bad eye to scope alignment. I have the endurance 30 lr dot and I find it quite good but haven't used the 25mm model but I wouldn't think there would be any real difference apart from the 30mm maybe allowing better light transmittance in dull/darker conditions. markm
I recently bought a 17 hornet kit, which come with this scope with the 30mm tube. It was the old model, before the relaunch of the brand, but I'm pretty sure its there same scope. They are actually quiet good. I own Swarovski and Nikon scopes, all £500 plus and they do what you want them to do, and some...... I would go of the 30mm.
30-6
It would be on a CZ Style (exactly the same as the silhouette but nickel plated). I have a Hawke Nite Eye with 50mm objective on at the moment with a 1" tube probably on high mounts and it seems ok for me. It would be one for one as far as fit goes. Never ever having a 30mm tube, i can't see much point. All the hype about bigger is better seems to have their fans, but a lot say it's a load of rubbish. It wasn't anything to do with the objective as he has a 50mm on it now and it doesn't need high mounts, it was something to do with the eyepiece being in the way of the bolt when opening and to make it work correct the scope was a long way up. Ginger_Swingers
The only purpose of a 30mm tube rather than 25mm is that it allows greater range of adjustment, where a 25mm might have 50MoA a 30mm tube would have maybe 65MoA as there is more space within the tube for the mechanism. Believe 30mm tubes are tougher too. So basically increase in elevation and windage ability. Edited June 25, 2015 by Ginger_Swingers
Killshott
Ive used many Hawke scopes over the years, and found them good value for money. However, I swear by a Simmons Whitetail classic 3-10x50 on my HMR. Given the flat trajectory of the calibre, the less fussy the reticule is, the better. POA from 75 - 150 yards is less than 1/8" variance so it's basically point & shoot for these ranges. Either of the Hawke scopes will do the job with the 25mm giving more bolt clearance if fitted with medium mounts. If using high mounts due to clearance issues, then the 30mm tube gives more adjustment but at a price. 30mm tube scopes with SF also tend to be heavier, so if weight is a factor, the simpler scope with 25mmm tube will be lighter
spready
I use the 4-16x50sf with LR dot, its brilliant on the .17hmr, very clear optics and works well with an NV addon Edited June 25, 2015 by spready
