ShootingEgg
Well last night after dog training my pooch decided that what ever he had picked up in woods wanted to come back out, on picking up the sick i noticed two rather long worms... To say i wasnt happy was an understatement... Only wormed the little fella 4 weeks ago.. So now will be having a chat woth vets about why the wormer didn't do its job.... Thought he was t gaining weight...

ShootingEgg
Well im.not sure, they were coiled up (round worm) and i used a poop bag to pick it up, smell was beautiful... And when in hand i could of been making them move etc. Vets have given me the same tablet he took which im not happy with as its obviously not done its job.... bigbird
Milbemax? Drontal? A few of us have found that labs can't stomach Milbemax, not sure what your pup is. If pup is sick straight after worming it does render it a bit ineffective.
fenboy
Could it not be that worming has been effective , the dog has eaten something that its brought back up and along with it some dead worms ?
bigbird
How old was he when you got him him and what was the worming regime *they told you he had* / he had beforehand? Takes some time for worms to grow to size. Is he doing a dry cough occasionally at all? Could it not be that worming has been effective , the dog has eaten something that its brought back up and along with it some dead worms ? Possible I suppose but dead worms would surely usually have been ingested along with the other delights that a maggoty stinky thing has to offer ? I was told every 3 months by my vets when he went for his second lot of jabs around 3 months old. But now im.guessing it should of been more often as the tablet just do that one day... My trainer has some panicure(spelling) that he is going to give me. To help the cause. Also he is a springer. And this is first time.he has ever vomitted, and no coughing.. Dirty Harry
I wouldn't say your vets done anything wrong. Worming tablets treat the dog on that day and don't provide any lasting protection. That's just the way they work. Make sure you treat at regular intervals and sooner if you spot any.
