How do I separate forend iron from wood on Spanish side by side?

Hello all

I've finally plucked up the courage to refinish the stock and forend on my old Spanish sidelock. Being a total beginner at this, but encouraged by some of the posts on this forum, I've decided to have a go.

Removing the locks and the stock was far easier than I expected using screwdrivers ground to fit. Separating the wood on the push rod forend is proving a bit of a problem though. I assumed it would be held in place by a single screw on the underside of the forend (see photo below).

After removing the screw the metal is still tight to the wood. There are no other visible pins or screws apart from one small silver screw on the push rod assembly. Do I need to dismantle the push rod assembly too? If so, do I start my removing the small silver screw first?? I am very reluctant to do this!

Would be very grateful if anybody can shed any light on this. It's a Black Sabel Deluxe (built by Arrieta) if this helps.

Thank you!

Once you have done this the iron should be free from the wood. If you have difficulties, stop, check for any other screws if there are no screws hold the forend in one hand, then using a small punch tap the iron back out of the wood, this should free the iron from the wood and allow you to lift the iron from the wood.
