There is another bit that goes on the end of the manifold. But yes there is a bit in there that opens and closes but I have no idea.

Simon. It was from Guernsey so had a plate with just 4 or 5 numbers on it. Can't register it here till it's got an MOT and tax.

The butterfly valve on a series diesel is in the intake manifold, directly after where the elephants trunk connects. They added about 3 inches to the manifold, and this extra section has the butterfly valve in it.

the butterfly valve when partcially closed creats a vacumn which operates the servo assisted brakes on that model....................Ta -Da...

you will hace to be careful; how you set it up as too much vacumn will starve the engine of air and it will smoke like stink.....not sure how you set it up...you will have to stuff the cleaning and do some research after a curry...............its either that or sex......

so after not much sleep last nigh due to the excitement an early start beckoned, not that early but in the garage at 8am putting a few final touches to the engine and getting the engine and gearbox brackets and mounts on ready for my mate coming to help out getting the engine and gearbox back together and back where it belongs.

took some working out due to one thing and another but we got there in the end, its in but not fully bolted down as we were short on nuts and washers, but at least its back where it should be, and hopefully some time this week the bulkhead will be done, called up to see the painter on wednesday and told him to pull his finger out, i wont make the mistake of telling him "no rush" next time i take something, 5-7 week hes had it  ill be dropping seat base and rear tub up when i get bulkhead back :good::good: then i can finally get the rest of the things on the engine, manifold, starter motor, injector pump and so on, then there is all the stuff that connects to the bulkhead, brake pipes to do, wireing loom, the list is frightening  but exciting :yahoo:
