welshwarrior
John Philips kindly gave me some big oak it's really nice looking stuff and I'm about to get on and use it but does it rust metal like normal oak due to tannin etc.
Andy135
Don't know, but you could try lacquering the blade tang (presume its a knife your making scales for) or coating in a thin layer of epoxy to reduce/eliminate metal to wood contact. CaptainBeaky
Use fibre liners between the wood and the metal. Protects the metal and looks nice.

welshwarrior
I'm actually thinking of a forend tip and grip cap for a rifle stock I started today, as I'm low on ebony and the bog oak has a nice dark (blackish) contrasting colour.
